Municipality of Maifeld
Expanse creates peace
Wide, fertile fields arranged like a patchwork quilt, framed by hedges and rows of trees, rolling hills and small villages. The Nette and Elzbach valleys cut deep into the landscape and overgrown with dense forest. Situated on a plateau at the transition from the Eifel to the Moselle valley. All this is the beautiful Maifeld.
Visible from afar, the imposing collegiate church sits enthroned on a hill in the middle of the historic town of Münstermaifel. Enter the local history and adventure museum and discover the extensive collection of old store fittings and an old schoolroom, lovingly recreated. In a vaulted cellar under the tourist information office, you can immerse yourself in times gone by and marvel at grave finds from the early days of the Maifeld in the Maifeld Archaeological Museum. How about taking a stroll through the beautiful old town at the end?
World-famous and just a few kilometers from Münstermaifeld lies “the” Eltz Castle. Today, as in the past, it enchants visitors with its special location and unique architecture. Surrounded by wild nature and yet situated on a rock, the Elzbach valley has always offered it sufficient protection to survive undamaged to the present day.
Three dream trails and two dream paths attract hikers to the Maifeld. The “Elzer Burgenpanorama” and “Pyrmonter Felsensteig” dream trails have been awarded the title of “Germany’s most beautiful hiking trail”. The best way to combine your tour is with a visit to the famous Eltz Castle.
If you don’t just want to hike, but also actively explore the region by bike, the Maifeld cycle path is highly recommended. With almost no inclines and far away from the roads, the cycle path winds its way along a former railroad line. Cycling fun on the Maifeld for the whole family.
