Where Bacchus is at home

At 544 km, the Moselle is the second longest tributary of the Rhine and one of the most beautiful.

It flows in narrow loops through an impressive landscape, accompanied by the steepest vineyards in the world, idyllic villages and guarded by romantic castles.

Wine and culinary delights meet culture and action on the Moselle. Countless hiking trails invite you to discover the Moselle valley off the beaten track.

Enjoy the beauty of the landscape from the river and explore the surroundings on foot. There are many stops along the way. There are various hiking trails, some of which take you steeply up through the vineyards, along winding paths to proud castles or leisurely along the banks of the river.

The Moselle has a lot to offer

On the sunny Lower Moselle, which flows from Burgen to Winningen, you can still experience the history of viticulture up close today when the winegrowers cut the grapes on the steep slate slopes during the harvest. As a classic European wine-growing region, the Moselle is also the oldest wine region in Germany. Nothing has shaped the landscape and its villages as much as the fascination and passion for wine. Enjoy the delicious Riesling directly from the producer.

When the vine leaves start to turn red and golden in the fall, it's time for wine festivals. Local delicacies and the best wine the Moselle has to offer can be sampled. Local winegrowers present their Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc as well as Riesling. The warmth of the slate rock, long days of sunshine and the excellent climate give the vines a variety of flavors and depth that is second to none. The wine is pressed in traditional wineries and can be sampled in lovingly designed wine taverns. Joie de vivre and tradition, both are at home on the Moselle.

Or how about a trip into the past? Cultural treasures from 2,000 years ago offer plenty of opportunities.

Enjoy your time on the Moselle.
