Verlauf

On the stage from Namedy to Bassenheim, the route first leads along the Namedy stream through lush coppice forest to high plateaus and later into the open countryside, from where you can enjoy views of the Neuwied Basin and the Volcanic Eifel. In Plaidt, it is worth making a detour to the Rauschermühle Volcano Park Information Center. After crossing the Nettetal valley, you pass old pumice quarries to Weißenthurm and Kettig, where you can admire a wide range of different fruit varieties. A combined tour with the orchard meadow trail is recommended here. After more great panoramic views, you hike along idyllic field paths to the day's destination in the center of Bassenheim, where a visit to the Bassenheimer Reiter is recommended at the end of the stage.

Bassenheim to Winningen

The day's stage from Bassenheim to Winningen is a detour to the Moselle. Starting from Bassenheim, the route first leads across meadows and through woodland past the edge of a stone factory before passing under the viaduct of the long abandoned railroad line. Before reaching the village of Wolken, it is worth making a detour to the Baumallee natural monument and the Karmelenberg, a crater of the former volcano. On the route to Wolken, you can enjoy the view over open fields. A combined tour with the "Koberner Burgpfad" dream trail is recommended here. Continue along the RheinBurgenWeg through the Belltal valley with its beautiful forest and after an ascending serpentine path, the first panoramic view of the Moselle will reward you for your efforts. On wide vineyard paths, you can experience the landscape of the steep slopes up close and, once you reach the day's destination in the wine village of Winningen, you can also taste the vineyard harvest over a glass of wine.

Winningen to Koblenz

The stage from Winningen to Koblenz first leads through the steep vineyards, from where you can enjoy great views of the Moselle valley. In Güls, we cross the Moselle by bridge to reach the Karthause district, which surprises with lots of nature and fantastic paths. After enjoying magnificent views of the Moselle and crossing the Koblenz city forest, the route continues through high forest to the historic Rittersturz vantage point with a magnificent view of the "Lower Middle Rhine Valley" World Heritage Site. It is worth leaving the RheinBurgenWeges trail here to visit the city of Koblenz with the Deutsches Eck and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.

Koblenz to Rhens

This stage of the RheinBurgenWeg begins at the Rittersturz in Koblenz, where the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany was once prepared. Magnificent views of the Rhine Valley accompany you along the way, which leads past a rampart that was once used by the Celts. After a few climbs and a more leisurely passage through the forest, you reach the vicinity of Stolzenfels Castle, which is definitely worth a visit. Another highlight from Roman times awaits at the highest point of the stage: the Temple of Mercury. The hike continues through high forest until the landscape opens up again, revealing fabulous views of the Rhine Valley. The last part of the route meets the "Wolfsdelle" dream trail. The route continues through an orchard landscape to the historic Königsstuhl in Rhens, before reaching the day's destination of Rhens with its idyllic half-timbered houses and historic old town.
