Maifeld cycle path
Pale green and blooming in spring, providing shade in summer and full of colorful foliage in autumn: the Maifeld cycle path winds its way through the fertile landscape of the Maifeld like a green tunnel.
Notes on the route
Cyclists, hikers and inline skaters use the almost gradient-free cycle path on the former railroad line between Münstermaifeld, Polch, Ochtendung and Mayen.
The cycle path forks in Polch, creating two routes of around twenty kilometers each. The route between Polch and Mayen is characterized by the imposing natural stone viaduct over the Nettetal valley, two illuminated tunnels and the sites of slate mining. If you cycle via Ochtendung to Bassenheim, you can enjoy far-reaching views across to the volcanoes of the Eastern Eifel.
Inns, playgrounds and green spaces along the way invite you to take a break. In summer, the water playground in Mertloch and the outdoor pool in Münstermaifeld are tempting. A sculpture trail offers cyclists a kind of open-air museum – a successful combination of art and nature on the Maifeld cycle trail.
