Rhine bend experience

World Heritage Middle Rhine

Rhens is just a stone’s throw away from Koblenz. Situated in the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley, the town can look back on thousands of years of history. The Celts left their first traces on the largest loop of the Rhine and together with the towns of Brey, Spay and Waldesch, Rhens forms the “Rhine Arch Experience” vacation region.

Breathe in the history in the small alleyways, surrounded by the almost completely preserved town wall and amidst half-timbered buildings and the old town hall.

The Königsstuhl is enthroned high above the city and offers a breathtaking view across the Rhine to Marksburg Castle on the other side of the river. Where German kings were once elected and important alliances concluded, the stone throne still looks down on the Rhine Valley today.

Stroll through the streets of the historic town center of Spay and admire the beautiful half-timbered houses. What appears rather plain at first glance shines all the more when you enter the interior. St. Peter’s Chapel with its murals from the first half of the 14th century is unique on the Middle Rhine.

A legacy of the Romans can still be found in Brey today. Only rediscovered in the middle of the 20th century, the aqueduct is an important ground monument from Roman times.

The beautiful rose village of Waldesch, situated on the northern foothills of the Hunsrück, is an ideal starting point for many hikes and cycle tours.

The Rhine Cycle Route, also known as Euro Velo 15, is one of the most modern and scenically diverse cycle routes. Not only does it connect Europe, it also leads past the Rhine bend adventure region.

For those who prefer walking, the region’s dream paths and trails as well as the RheinBurgenWeg are highly recommended.
